Name: Mave Hart
Nickname: JazZ (pronounced like jazzy)
Age: 15
Species: Human
Appearance: Although short, Mave has a nice build and a well-toned body from all the work she’s done over the years. She stands at 5'3" and most of her weight is composed of muscle, not fat. Her long, bluish-black hair hangs just past her shoulder blades and is as soft as silk. Mave’s hair is very thin, and while this can be a blessing, you’ll rarely catch her with her hair up simply because it refuses to stay that way, sliding out of anything she puts it in. Her eyes, though now unseeing, have retained their emerald green color. There is a slightly glazed look to them that is almost imperceptible if you didn’t know Mave before the accident. Her skin, while smooth and soft on most of her body, is very calloused on her hands. She has numerous scars on her body but they are all little and of no consequence.
For clothing, Mave prefers jeans and a comfortable but fitting shirt. She is used to wearing work clothes a lot and hasn’t owned anything fancier than a simple Sunday dress. Mave loves soft fabric and beautiful things but she refuses to waist her family’s precious money on such frivolous items.
Personality: Having grown up with three brothers and tons of male cousins, Mave is very much the tomboy. She loves the outdoors and will happily spend every spare moment in nature. Although she loves sports and can roughhouse or wrestle on par with most boys, she is also very studious. Her love of readings is only matched by her love of art. Though she can no longer look at or draw art, she has found other ways to be creative. Her focus has shifted to playing the saxophone (to which she earned her nickname, JazZ) and she will spend hours practicing the instrument, oblivious to the world around her. She can still read but at a slower rate since she is still learning how to read brail.
Towards both people and animals, Mave is friendly and caring. She likes making people happy and will go to great lengths to make people smile or laugh. While she is outgoing, Mave has become more cautious due to her blindness. She is wary simply because she has a harder time judging people. Mave is a friend for life and will stick by any friend no matter what the circumstances. She is pretty selfless when it comes to her friends but she is only human. When Mave is tired, hungry, or simply irritated that day, she can be selfish, grumpy, and a complete pain, though it is rare.
Mave has a definite temper but she keeps it under control for the most part. When she does break and the dam explodes, her anger is red hot, quick, and lasts for the rest of the day. She doesn’t think when she’s mad and says and does things on impulse. The next day, she will be over it unless it is something really big. She hates sulking and will confront her problems head on. When not angry, Mave thinks before she speaks and is respectful to all. She treats everyone equally and has no preconceived prejudices for race, color, or nationality.

History: Mave (happiness), Prem (love), Day (hope), and Cale (faith) were a rare case of natural quadruplets born into an ordinary family in a small town in Montana. Their catholic mother, obsessed with all things religious, decided to name her children with names that come from the famous Bible text of “faith, joy (happiness), hope, and love, but the greatest of these is love.” Of course, she never loved one more than the other but as the only girl of the bunch, Mave was somewhat spoiled by her mother. Her brothers never let it go to her head though, dragging her back down to earth if she thought herself too far above them.
Mave’s parents owned a dude ranch and so Mave and her siblings were raised learning how to work horses and guide ignorant city folk on trail rides. Although riding horses became second nature to all of them, each excelled in different areas. Mave, smaller than her siblings, couldn’t handle the bigger horses as well but she was the best bareback rider of the bunch. Loving the feel of sitting astride raw power and controlling it, her interests began to encompass motorcycles before she was even ten years old.
All of the quadruplets got good grades in school and nothing too eventful happened in Mave’s life that was any different from your average girl. Freshman year of high school, Mave decided that it was time she began to put her love of art into practice. She began to illustrate everything from family Christmas cards to even getting offered a nice sum of money to create an advertisement for a local store. Everything in her life was what Mave considered to be perfect.
For her sixteenth birthday, Mave’s brothers and parents pooled their resources and got her a motorcycle. Just two short weeks after her birthday, Mave was hit by a truck and trailer while out riding on her bike. The accident put her into the hospital and although she was released just three days later, her vision was ruined. Over the course of a week, it continued to get worse and there was nothing the doctors could do about it. Not even two weeks after the accident, Mave was completely blind.
Although Mave wanted nothing more than to sink into depression and grief over the loss of her most cherished sense, her brothers wouldn’t let her. Forcing her to go on the camping trip that they went on every year, she began to enjoy life again through her more alert other senses. It was on this camping trip that she had a very unusual experience. She met an Irken invader when out traveling in the woods, but being blind, she could only hear his voice and did not see what he was.
Having been the first human that had ever talked to him, the Irken began to talk to Mave and somehow let who he was slip. Thinking that his tales of the planet Irk were just a joke, Mave listened as the Irken told her everything and then left Mave in complete confusion. Curiosity took her over then. Through her studies of Brail, Mave learned how to read (though not quite at the level of a person who was not blind) and began to look up information and study about aliens. She somehow ended up stumbling across secret files in the library (that were written in Brail for obvious safety reasons) that told of the war. Mave, being open-minded, realized that these stories were not fiction and went to look for her Irken friend once again. However, after a month of searching through the forest, she realized that he was gone and that she would probably never see him again. It was then that she set out on a quest to discover the truth about the war and the Irken race.

Role-Playing Sample: Spread like some majestic painting, the moon and stars hung in the sky while far to the east the tip of the sun and color began to slide their fingers up into the air. Everything was silhouetted and beautiful, shining with a fresh layer of dew. Pausing in her walk across the lawn, a girl with a rather large duffle bag slung over her shoulder inhaled the morning air. In the background, birds and crickets chirped and sang their wake up and good night calls. With her head thingyed to the side, Mave grinned as she listened, reminded of so many camp outs she’d been on. Shaking her head to pull herself back to reality and continued towards the building.
While Mave desperately missed not being able to see the beauty around her, she also missed the convenient things, like being able to see where she was going. She at least knew she’d found a building when she nearly walked into the wall, stopping a mere centimeter or so away. Pressing her hand to the rough exterior, she edged herself around until she came to a door. ‘Maybe I should have just accepted help for once,’ she thought worriedly as she pushed on the door. For the briefest of moments, it stuck and then gave way, causing her to trip and nearly sprawl across the floor. Her foot did manage to catch the rug however and so she ended up kissing the ground anyway.
